"Celebration"

As a woman, artist, and child of God, it's important to me to celebrate the lives of great women past, present, and future. And while many are not on my "celebration" train, so many are... You who are know that celebrating other women is empowering to the soul... When we acknowledge the "God" or "Goddess" in others, we are acknowledging it in ourselves, and to celebrate the "light" in others is being connected with the oneness of the universe. Women are powerful on their own but when they unite mentally, physically, spiritually, and in their hearts, they change the world. This to me is grace. Women embody grace when they are centered in love and especially love for other women. We need the love and support of one another, and while my father was my favorite human, it was my Grandmother, Brown, who taught me God's grace... She genuinely gave more to others than she gave to herself. I try to live daily in her teachings of love, generosity, and her servant's heart and can only hope that I'm serving her spirit proudly, which brings me to another great woman - Carol Hicks Bolton, an angel, a friend, and an artist who has inspired so many. Her love and grace is quite literally the bow by which the Magnolia Pearl arrow was launched. I love you Carol. Now, over a decade later I'm proud to announce that I will be having my first fashion show at her new store, Carol Hicks Bolton's "Laboratoire de Design", and I know for sure that God is smiling... This is grace.
I was recently invited to do the PURE fashion show in London, and to any designer this is a dream come true, but I politely declined and decided to do a show here, at home in the heart of the Texas hills, surrounded by love, familiar faces, and "God's grace". John thinks I'm crazy for not going to London, but I explained- "It's about the art, not the ego for me. I would do this show if only our chickens and dog were coming". But to look out and see all of you there will be a spiritual experience for me ---

"You become what you believe"
When I was younger, no one planted the seeds of belief in me to grow my dreams, so I started planting them for myself, and magic has grown in my life. Yes, life is a miracle, but what we do with that life is an even bigger miracle- everything we do affects the lives of other people and to what degree is up to us. 2012 is the year of "belief", the year to manifest our dreams. There is a "knowing" in each and every one of us. A knowing that we came here to do GREAT things. Sometimes that knowing is only a little flicker that needs some encouragement to be ignited by the love, creativity and passion of others who have "woken up" and are on fire with their purpose. You know these people when you see them - they glow from their soul. 2012 is the year to "glow from you soul"
Here's something amazing that Oprah said on her life class last night about finding your true calling and having faith in yourself. It totally resonated with me.
Oprah - "This is what I know for sure, had I not been on television and been working in a shoe store, I do believe I would be the person who would be selling the most shoes and I would like to come around to have the conversations that we would be having as we tried on the shoes. So I never Imagined that what I would be doing would be sitting on television talking to you all, but the nature of my personality and the nature of my belief was that whatever I would be doing.. I would find a way to be really good at it and excel at it. That is what I believed about myself. So, Jk Rowling had some of that same stuff, she was a writer and she knew she was a writer and what writers do is write. They write whether 15 people or 15 million people are reading it. If that is what you believe you were born to do - you do it! You find a way to allow the truth of yourself to express it's self because thats what we are all looking for. We are all looking for the highest, fullest expression of ourselves as human beings, and unless you are doing that - unless you are finding a way for what you believe to be true about yourself to express and manifest itself in the world, you are not livng your fullest life. You are worthy of happiness, love and peace. Believe it."

This is our year to glow from our souls. If enough of us are glowing, we can change the world.

Today I was talking with a friend about how amazing life is and what a miracle it is that we are here...all of us. Life is our first and most precious gift. I think everyday that mine is not to be taken for granted for so many reasons but mostly because I came from a beautiful and very broken woman who had lots and lots of obstacles in this life. It's hard for me to imagine that she could consider giving life to me and four other children with her painful past and relentless drug and alcohol addiction. It was as if darkness and defeat rode around on her shoulder as constant companions. I've explained to some of my siblings that, yes, our life was chaos with tons of pain, but we are "here" against the odds - rejoice in every second of this life! Every minute that we are alive is an opportunity to give back, which brings me to something I wrote in my book ---

"The Art of Giving" :

I believe that life is the first and best gift we receive. My parents taught me that. The awareness of that gift creates gratitude, and gratitude is reflected in giving. We all have something to contribute or share-the amount depends on your perception of abundance. the act of giving creates abundance in return, and I believe that is a universal law; not to mention it just plain makes you happy.
Happiness is an art; a feat unto itself, but giving helps to contribute to happiness. One of my father's favorite sayings was: "A poor man shames us all. Do you like my song? I'll sing it for you!" A generous spirit is contagious and breeds more generosity. If you doubt it, start giving and see what happens.
After reading this book, I sincerely hope you come away empowered to follow your heart and find your inner artist. Have and open mind for what is beautiful to you and tap into that inner voice. When you stop listening to the external voices and listen to what resonates inside of you, then you are really on the path to creating a beautiful space. When you approach things from that perspective, staying true to yourself and the things you love, you never go wrong. Whether or not something is beautiful is completely up to you. If you don't like it, do it over . . . and remember to have fun in the process!

This story still brings tears to my eyes and is very befitting to me now as I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago. What a humbling experience that is. I suppose I am closer to being real!

How May I Serve?

Am I a sanctuary for the people who love me? Do I bring light, warmth, safety, love, laughter, and honesty to the world before me? I want to illuminate life. The beauty of our true nature is light or enlightenment to share with one another. I long for all my relationships to be a connection of the heart. This precious time is worth only that.

Have you ever noticed that you are drawn to some people? Drawn to their energy? I think it's because we feel safe with or are connected to that person's "sanctuary" energy. Some people just make us feel calm, grounded, and at ease. That's why working on "me" is so important. I want to be a sanctuary for the people who love me and, most importantly, for me. When I think of a "sanctuary" person, I think of St. Frances and his beautiful prayer.... That calms me. Finding that calm as a woman is especially challenging to say the least, but we are the nurturers, so it's our gift to nurture the world and one another as women.

Women are like the ocean with the perpetual motion of the waves that gently calm and the energy to inhale the Earth and powerfully crash it down washing away all that hurts. Finding that balance is our mystery and reward. We are so powerful. I want love to be my power; I want my waves to gently move back and forth washing away the past and polishing the future.

Hi beautiful women,

I don't watch television much, but I seem to be drawn to "OWN", The Oprah Winfrey Network. I learn something deep about myself almost every time I watch it on Sunday evenings. Recently, I watched Shania Twain's documentary, "Why Not", and I resonated so much with Shania's childhood sadness and immense responsibilities as well as her fears as a woman. There's always something life changing when you learn that powerful, impenetrable women have some of the same fears you and I have. I cried through the whole series watching Shania conquer her fears standing naked, truthful and raw in front of the whole world. The truth really does set us free and that's so powerful. We can fly when we are brave enough to be deeply truthful with ourselves and the world in spite of the fear. I have spent so much of my life being ashamed of my fears and feeling so alone with them. When I was a child, I had to be brave for my little brother and sister, as I was their only rock. Even now, I rarely talk about fear or weakness with my brother, Thovas, as I want him to see me as invincible and capable of anything so he won't feel vulnerable in this big old scary world. I know now that the only way to heal from the monsters in my head is to confront them no matter who is watching. It's finally about me and God this time and I deserve to be free. For the first time in my life I get that! I'm only on the beginning of my brave path and I literally thank Shania for passing the torch to me. Ready, Set, Go!! I have so much work to do, but with love I can do it and so can you --- Come with me.

Hi beautiful and powerful women;

While watching the new reality show, "Finding Sarah", I had a breakthrough moment or an "aha" moment as Oprah calls it. Fergie was talking with Dr. Phil and he was explaining why some of us are "blocked" at certain phases of our lives - We all have a personal truth, and that truth is what we really believe about ourselves when nobody is looking or listening. It's what we truly believe about ourselves in the core of our souls. He said, "Personal truth is so important because I think we generate the results in our life that we believe we deserve." I had to rewind that statement several times to totally absorb those powerful words. "Wow", what do I believe I deserve? Have I been blocking myself from all the universe has to share with me by believing I'm undeserving? Dr. Phil went on to say, "If you have a damaged personal truth, you generate the results that match that." "When we grow up, people write on the slate of who we are. People like parents write on our slate. But the most tragic thing of all is when we pick up the pen and start writing and we write the same things they did.." What is your personal truth? What is my personal truth? Do we have a damaged personal truth? That's a powerful question that deserves some honest quiet time to reflect. If your personal truth was damaged like mine was as a child, it's time for us to take that story and write in the the beautiful truth about who we are and what we deserve. We are amazing children and women of God, and while our parents were doing their best to gift us what they could, they probably didn't have the tools to sculpt the masterpiece we are meant to be. Now it's our responsibility to accept God's grace, love, and power so we may soar like angels... The more we have, the more we have to share with one another. We are all beautiful and so deserving of all the miracles, love, abundance, and magic this world and the universe has to share with us. Know how precious and beautiful you are and I ,too, will try to see God's beauty in me. I love all of you and I believe your personal truth is amazing!

Lately I've been hoping that I'm living my life on purpose, and while I love what I do, I want to make the most of this precious gift and opportunity called life. I heard Oprah once say, "God can dream a bigger life for you than you can dream for yourself and when you surrender, it becomes possible". Have I surrendered? Will I know? Gary Zukav says in his book, "The Seat Of the Soul", when your personality comes to serve the energy of your soul, that is authentic power". "Authentic power" -- I love that! I want to be sure that my power is authentic "always", and I don't want to waste a moment of it. The past couple of weeks, I've been on an alkaline cleanse in hopes of healing the challenge of stubborn allergies which has moved me closer to the center of myself where God lives in me. In cleansing my body, I've also been cleansing my spirit and soul. I've come to realize that some foods are not good for me, and sometimes some of the people in my life are not good for me as well. That's a hard lesson because I get so attached on every level to all living creatures, especially humans, and when it's time to move on, I move very slowly. I can't do the good work that God put me here to do when my energy is not in alignment with giving and receiving love. I'm learning to let go, breath more deeply and settle into this cleanse until these allergies leave my body. This makes for a fun summer, lots of green juice, green salads, and meditation! God has put us all here to bring a gift to this human experience --- What is real and lasting is who we are and what we're meant to bring. I want to be a gift in the lives of the people who love me, so I'll keep working on me.

Hi everyone,

As some of you know, we had a beautiful dog, Humphrey, for 16 years and he was the love of our lives. When he went to his "next" journey two years ago, I said I would never, never have another dog - EVER! Well, while at our spring show at Marburger, we met the most beautiful dog, Cash, and it was the first time I felt that deep longing in my heart for a dog again. John must have felt the same way because when we got home he searched and searched for our perfect "family member" until he found this adorable little puppy we named "Happy". He will come to live with us on Friday, and we are so thrilled - almost like adopting a child! I can't wait to watch cartoons with him in the bed!! I hope he will love us as much as I know we will love him. Dogs are the best!! I'll post more photos when he arrives here at his new home.

Hi everyone,

What a glorious day! I've been working in the garden today harvesting organic squash and herbs. The tomatoes are soon to come... - There's nothing more delicious than a warm, sun-ripe tomato eaten right off the vine!! We made sun tea today with the herbs from our garden and while sipping on the "elixir of love", I was reading my favorite poem by William Butler Yeats, "The Stolen Child". I've posted it here for you along with "The Waterboys" singing the poem - So beautiful!! You may also click on the image to view our Marburger Farm 2011 Video.

Hi everyone,

When I was a child, my parents didn't celebrate holidays much, but my mother, Anna, loved Easter. No matter how poor we were at the time, my mother would create the most magical Easter basket that would send me over the moon and into the stars (Maybe I was high on too much sugar!). She filled it with some of the usual fare but always with some of the very unusual fare, indeed like; bird's nests, rocks, glitter in glass tubes, butterfly wings, and black jelly beans (my favorite)! I never walk down the grocery store aisle at Easter and lock eyes with all the stuffed bunnies without tearing up for my mom. I will have at least one licorice jelly bean for her on Sunday while saying my prayers and counting all of my many blessings."Thank you God for this life."

We had a blissful show with the most amazing people full of love and laughter. Thank you God for this life and all of its beautiful opportunities. Thank you to all who came to play with us and to all who were there playing in spirit. And to my Magnolia Pearl girls, there are no words to express my gratitude - you made it possible. Hi everyone,

As I sit and think about all the tragedy and heaviness in the world, I am reminded by the first spring hummingbird that the world is also full of beauty and light. Our vining roses are just starting to bloom and I can smell the wisteria flowers floating softly on the wind. Life is crazy and sane, happy and sad, scary and beautiful all at the same time, and I'm starting to become better at breathing deeply, letting go, and accepting the duality of this precious experience. I've noticed that the birds are "just" happy, that's all, they're just happy, and I sense that they know God on a personal level, so if they aren't worried, maybe I shouldn't be either.

We are loading our gypsy wagons and trailers with "Beautiful Wear" and heading for the BIG show in Round Top. There's no place like Round Top, TX in the spring -- See all of you soon!!!!. Here's one of our " Bloom And Fly" art projects we made for the show.

Hi everyone,

It's that wonderful time gain that we work so hard for, the spring Marburger Farm Antique show, and while it's nothing but chaos around here with lace and fabric scraps, bailing wire, newspaper, burlap, paint, and cotton string everywhere, it's beautiful chaos! The M.P. crew are all running in different directions, listening to different ipods, answering phones, some indoors, some outdoors, but we all come together for lunch (some crazy vegetable concoction I've made) to talk about what catastrophe we've had with our art projects and laugh about it! It never fails that so many of my "great" ideas flop at the last minute leaving us hours (literally) to start over, hoping to create at least a small amount of magic for the show - Ahhh, the creative life! Round Top, TX is our home away from home and all the vendors and customers are like our second family - just like camp!! We always get that "roasted marshmallows, ghost stories around the campfire, shooting stars with big flashlights, and the serenade of singing crickets feeling!

My, oh my,

Magnolia Pearl is bursting at the seams with love from all of you - Thank you! As I sit here listening to Elton John's lyrics, "Until you've seen this trash can dream come true.", I realize these are the lyrics of my life. As true artists, my parents, Anna and Preston, found "opportunities" to create art from just about anything - literally. My father would say, "The only thing you need to create art is imagination." I know now that this is so true. Being lean on money but not imagination, my parents combed through trash cans on a regular basis during my childhood years looking for useful scraps to create magic and beauty that could be transformed and then sold so that we could eat -What a great exchange I thought then and I still do. All this digging in the trash for "magic" was out of necessity and lots of passion for life, and it never occurred to me at that young age, that this was preparing me for a great life yet to come... Many, many, years later, Viola! Magnolia Pearl was born, and I can honestly say, that thanks to all of you, "my trash can dream has come true."

What a beautiful chance this has been for me to express myself and who I am even if only for me, but hopefully for others too. I've started compiling the crazy, amazing and painful stories of my life for my next book of inspiration in hopes that my story will inspire other women to "shoot for the moon even if you only land amongst the stars".

What if you thought of yourself as the greatest piece of art you've ever created - a masterpiece in the making? If you saw yourself this way, would you live life differently - paying more attention to the details? Michelangelo said, "I saw an angel in a block of marble and I carved until I set him free." How much paint would you put on your canvas? How many colors would you use? The beautiful thing about art is when you make a mistake, you paint over it and keep going. All of us are a work of art - a masterpiece in the making - a reflection of God. The brush is in our hand, we can create what we want to reflect to the universe (beauty is in the layers). God saw an angel in all of us and kept carving until he set us free. Now it's our turn to go forth and carve, paint, create, and set something magical free - our spirits. This is our time to shine. Don't save any paint, cover your canvas, use the good brushes, and don't be afraid to make a mess. All masterpieces require a great mess. Art is messy inside and out. Paint "LOVE" across your canvas, Paint "I love you" across your canvas! Okay, Earth Angels, go forth and share the love, share the art, share the heart, and know that I love you.

Beautiful women,

"The Metamorphosis"

"To talk to about or not to talk about? Yes, I'm going to talk about it!"

As women, I believe we only get better as we get older. However there is that fragile time for many women right before we evolve into our "soul power" stage at the crazy age that feels like a constant storm, and I'm talking about thunder and lightening! I'm 47 and it's starting to become quite evident that A - something beautiful is about to happen or B - I might lose my mind. I'm at a fragile place in my life where I feel like a Monarch butterfly in a rainstorm - The rain has washed all the powder from my wings leaving me raw and exposed to the elements and life. Keeping my grace as a butterfly in this space is not easy, but I'll find the closest flower, hang on tight and hope that the wind doesn't carry me away. I'm sure many of you are here too, so - flap your wings in the sunlight, hang on to the nearest flower and know that I understand. We, as women need one another.

We are preparing for our "Bloom and Fly" tour at the spring Marburger Farm Antique show (March 29th - April 2nd). Very befitting for spring, but also descriptive of where I am at this point in my life as a child of God, a woman, a wife, a sister, and a friend. I've always found it fascinating that flowers will bloom in the craziest of situations, as if their resilience is more powerful than any obstacle or challenge presented to them. I know you've seen a flower in the crack of some sidewalk in a major city with no sunlight or water, and thousands of feet completely unaware..... The flower stands tall and says "I'm alive, and what a glorious life it is!" I too want to bloom with this kind of resilience so I can then fly. Come bloom and fly with me,

Hello beautiful people,

I've taken a new approach to my conversations with God - Instead of white-knuckling the arms of my chair while waiting for the answers to my many questions, I've decided to "let go" and quit expecting answers, as they may not be that important. Low and behold, letting go of the expectations has caused a flood of answers coming at me like shooting stars! Okay, so maybe I'm on to something.... Slow learner I guess? When I think of God, I think of a GIANT parent watching patiently with his hands in his pockets until at last, a large grin comes over his face.

Hi everyone,

I hope your holiday season was the best ever! It's bittersweet for me - I love the holidays, but I'm always glad when it's past me. This year, my brother, Thovas, gave me an old sketch pad of our father's for Christmas and on the front (written by my father) was a quote that was truly a gift - "Light shines through the cracked." What a profoundly beautiful quote. Thank you Thovas and Dad.

Hi everyone,

Happy "almost" winter. The weather in Texas has been so amazing that it's hard to imagine that Christmas is in a few short weeks. We have been listening to Christmas carols with all the doors and windows open while the birds sing along. In fact, we are making light weight clothing to layer for our winter collection. When it finally does get cold here, we'll just put on more and more beautiful layers! Here's our newest "Beautiful Wear" video (click on image to view).

I just love this season - the smell of cinnamon dust, peppermint sticks, pine cones, and cranberries simmering on the stovetop, sweetened with pomegranate juice. I might even put Christmas lights up this year. For those of you who don't know me very well, I don't really decorate too much for Christmas ( childhood issues). John and I are going to decorate one of the cedar trees in our yard for all the sweet animals -- it already looks like a manger!

John and I are spending the day playing in the leaves and drinking hot, homemade cinnamon tea while thanking God for our "oh so many" blessings. It will finally be cold here, as a cold front is coming on Thanksgiving eve. - perfect for warming sweet potatoes in our chambers oven. I love sweet potatoes with lots pumpkin pie spice!

Hi all,

As I sit here today looking at the gigantic scar on my stomach I realize that our amazing bodies are just the carriage for our souls in this human experience, and when it's all said and done I know my body will have plenty of "character" to show my "purpose-lived life." I have a head start on most people, as I already have scars on my body from head to toe. I'm starting to look like a well loved doll with lots of patches and mending. My first scars came when I was bit by a dog on my face at age 5. Many times throughout my life I have thought about having them fixed because, hey, it's my face, but then I remind myself that true beauty shines from the inside out, with or without scars. I'm not one to conform to the "beauty rules" anyway! So my new scar is just one more souvenir to remind me of how precious life is.

Hi Everyone,

Some of you already know that my appendix ruptured two weeks ago and I was in the hospital for a humbling week. I'm now home recuperating much more slowly than I anticipated, so I know my lesson is patience and gratitude. I am so happy and lucky to be alive and though I am not doing cartwheels yet, life is a miracle and the sweetest gift ever! I am so grateful for all of you as well. Our "fall-two" line is moving slowly, but should be online soon. Yesterday, we received our copy of Where Women Create, featuring the Magnolia Pearl Design Studio and we wanted to share it. Our Gypsy wagon and carpet bags are packed and we are off on a magical carpet ride to the "greatest" show on Earth - Marburger Farm Antique show in Round Top, TX. Sept. 28th - Oct 2nd. Our Airstream "home away from home", is featured in this months Selvedge Magazine. The Magnolia Pearl fashion shoot will also be featured in Selvedge in a couple of months. They wrote such a wonderful story that we wanted to share it with you. We are also excited about our Fall line of clothing that we hope to have a sneak peak on the blog soon. In fact, I have been willing cool weather so I can wear one of the jackets! It's almost Marburger time again and we are racing against the clock to create enough "Beautiful Wear" for the show - It has been such an incredibly blessed and busy season for us that we are challenged to keep up. Hi everyone,

July has been an emotional month for me. I lost a couple of childhood friends, and while this has had me sobbing for days, it has also reminded me of how very precious every second of this human experience is. As I walk outside wiping the tears from my eyes, I suddenly see flower petals and thunder clouds with a clearer understanding of how God shares beauty with us at "every" moment - all we have to do is see it. It's really up to us what we see from moment to moment and we are surrounded by beauty everywhere - so much in fact, that we should be able to laugh out loud! I have my challenges like everyone does, but I am grateful for this life and the love that I am surrounded with - Thank you. I f any of you are going through one of life's many challenges, you might want to watch Tony Robbin's new television show "Break through", tonight on NBC at 7pm central time (tonight is the premier). Tony Robbins is one of my heros and has changed my life considerably.

We are working hard to complete our Summer "two" line of Beautiful Wear ( click image to see video) while trying to include the sweetness of Summer -- fresh peaches in the sun, star gazing in the tall grass, and playing in warm, Texas rain. We have been blessed with plenty of magical rain this Summer, so our well is full, the river is flowing beautifully, and our gardens are so green - yippeee! Hi beautiful women,

It's soon approaching Father's Day, (I know it's a bit early for this blog but it's important to me) one of my favorite days, as I spent the first thirty three years of my life with my very special father on this day. My father, Preston, was not interested in material things and not tethered to this world. In fact, when you gave him a gift, he would give it away. He was the most beautiful and generous human I have known. - Especially for someone who owned only art supplies and books (not even a car). He often would give "all" the money in his pocket to a homeless person saying to me, "Robin, wouldn't you rather your last twenty dollars make a big impact in the world today? That money will not change your life much today, but it will immensely change the life of someone who has nothing." He only knew love!

On the day that my father passed, his sketch book was lying open next to his bed turned to a page with a quote written by his hand that changed my life-

At that moment, I realized that all of us have something to give no matter how big or small and we should always start our day with "how may I serve?"

I want to share with you our "Magnolia Pearl for love" dolls made by a "genius" doll maker, Shannon Conley. Every sweet detail on these dolls is done by hand from mostly vintage fabrics and lace. Each doll is a one of a kind, numbered "Pearl" doll to be sold or auctioned for charity and love deeds. They are two feet tall with hand painted and stitched faces - adorned with purses, jewelry, flowers, and very "old" lace.

Happy Mother's Day to each and every one of you, even if you are just a mother to a goldfish! I think of my mother and giggle as I remember how she "loved" Mother's Day. She would start calling me a month before to remind me everyday that a "special day" was coming and how she so loved ballet shoes, silver jewelry, chocolate, junk, jungle gardenia perfume, baggy, victorian, eyelet night gowns, and Elton John music! She pretty much covered all the bases just in case I might of (somehow) forgot. Today, I ate squash drenched in Comino, in her honor. She loved and put Comino (a Mexican spice) on, literally everything. I only wish I had remembered to mix it in her ashes before we sprinkled them on the Earth. Happy Mother's Day Mom. I never forget.....

Hi everyone,

Today's blog is not about a pretty lace dress or a cool antique chandelier, it's about something more important; our souls. There's a fine line between being soulful and loving/wanting the beautiful (material) things in this life. It can be done, but there's definitely an art to staying real and grounded in a world of so many choices. It's like being in a giant candy store all the time while keeping a perspective of what is real. I love "beautiful" things as much as the next guy, so these reminders are important and helpful to me.

Here's a sneak peek of the "Magnolia Pearl" Airstream, "our home away from home". It will be featured in Romantic Home Magazine August 2010 (available in stores this June). It will also be featured in Where Women Create magazine - "Thanks beautiful Jo!".

John and I tried to create something as close to "home" as we could in this sweet little space. I'm not a big traveler, so creating something familiar and cozy is important to me. We've had many fun journeys in our little trailer, and it always feels like home -- I even get watch the Andy Griffith Show! "Home" is a funny word, as I believe that it is not an address - It's a state of mind and heart. The Earth is our home, but something inside all of us compels us to create warm, familiar spaces the way a bird makes an amazing nest - How do they do that?

Happy Spring! Oh how I love the flowers, the smell of dirt and the singing birds. Just when you think you can't take another gloomy day, it changes. God is such a genius!!

While at our spring show, a beautiful woman that I love, Liz Brown, gifted me this amazing book about an "inspiring", magical woman and her garden. This was the perfect gift for me, as I love old people, old souls, and of course gardens. I hope to have a garden with the many fruit trees and Peonies (my favorite flower) like Tasha's someday -- I'd better get busy! If you don't have this book, treat yourself to a much needed present and retreat from the madness. I've also included a video of Tasha's garden that I found on Youtube (I've edited it a bit). Enjoy and let all your troubles melt away as you escape to Tasha's beautiful, fairy filled garden I call Heaven!

Happy, happy, happy, happy, happy Spring!

As I went for my walk early this morning, I saw a "white" rainbow - I didn't know there was such a thing - it made me think of my father, Preston, and I cried from the crazy beauty. The rabbits were out eating green grasses and little yellow flowers were blooming everywhere with fog and sunshine all at once - it was just like Alice In Wonderland! If you have not yet seen Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter - "please", go feast your eyes on the magical, visual buffet!!! I really need that hat. Johnny, if you are reading this, I'll trade you something cool for that amazing hat!

We are making "beautiful wear", packing trailers and sewing props in preparation for our very important date at Marburger Farm Antique Show very,very, soon. I think we should just throw one big tea party for the whole week. What a blast that would be... We can do that after the show and everyone is invited!

We just finished our photo shoot with Jo Packham from "Where Women Create" and what a glorious time we had - Jo and Dana were a blast! Actually, the one of a kind vintage, lace, designs are my favorite of all the Magnolia Pearl "Beautiful Wear." Lace is somehow woven into my soul. Each and every piece of lace I touch, hold and use was made by another woman's precious hands long ago. Often times it sits in a box (shoe box) until someone, like me, finds it and gives it life again. We are so excited that we are invited to be in a gorgeous, European Magazine, "Selvedge". (www.selvedge.org). Magnolia Pearl will be featured in the July, 2010 issue. It's an expensive magazine but worth it, as each issue is like an art book. Thank goodness for the few good magazines still available. What a treat to make a cup of hot tea, prop your feet up in your cozy chair with down pillows and drift away to the land of "magazine make believe"! I think it's one of the few escapes women truly treat themselves to; a mini vacation. As I sit today to blog, all I can think of are the beautiful people of Haiti and their unimaginable pain. It seems like devastation from a terrible movie I would never go see, but it's real and it's a very short distance away. Wow, how the pain in the children's eyes puts things into perspective in my life and I hope yours too. I want to go and kiss the tears away on every child's face. Hopefully this tragedy will bring all of us closer to one another and to what is "real" in this life - Love. Hold, hug, kiss, and tell your family and friends how amazing they are to you. Hi Everyone,

We are excited that Jo Packham, the editor of, "Where Women Create", is coming to shoot our studio in February. If she could see it now she would cancel her reservation and call another artist!!!! Hopefully we will have it organized by the time she gets here... If nothing else, she'll get some good old fashion "Texas hospitality"!

We are also working on our "one of a kind" lace clothing for the Marburger Show in March. Wow, how the time flies! It has been so cold here, it's hard to imagine it will ever be warm again. I promise not to complain about the Texas heat - ever! That big yellow Sun will be met with open arms and smiling eyes. I'm ready to dip my toes in the river with some ginger, lavender, and lemonade!!

Happy New Year! For me, this is the year of gratitude, love, acceptance, compassion and most of all, the celebration of beauty! I want to see the beauty in "all" things including myself.

I think sometimes when we see God's perfection in ourselves we feel like we are not humble beings, but I know now that it's just the opposite. God wants us to see beauty and "be" beauty. Beauty is a "tricky" word these days with the media bombarding our eyes, ears and minds with their interpretation of such a precious emotion.

Well it's almost Christmas again and we've been so busy that we haven't put up one Christmas decoration this year. I don't really decorate for Christmas much anyway, but I usually gather things from nature to make garlands and wreaths. However, the older I get, the more I know that Christmas is not about the decorations or shopping, the gifts or the eggnog. It's not about one person's religion or another. It's only about one thing, - "LOVE". Love seems to be the one thing we give too little of, and the one thing we all really "need". We need it from ourselves most of all.

It's finally cold here and we are making very fine, vintage, French lace clothing - go figure! Actually, I love lace and wool in the winter... Kinda like peppermint in your hot chocolate! We will have much of our new line on our site in about 7 or 8 days. Lace is so delicious - I never tire of working with it!

Happy Fall! Isn't it crazy that it will soon be Thanksgiving? Where does the time go? Growing up, my ,artist, parents were not traditional in any way, so we never knew how we would spend the Holidays, but we were certain that it wouldn't be like the Cleaver's! One thing that never changed in our home, however, was the lesson of gratitude and generosity - especially during the Holidays. Everyday was a day to "give thanks" my father would say. "Everything we have is a gift from God - Even the hard times!" I know now that this is true and I thank my father for his dedication to grace and his beautiful imagination --- Sometimes imagination was all my parents were serving on Thanksgiving!! We all have so much to give and be thankful for. As we gear up for the Holidays we should remind ourselves to be generous, kind, patient, and grateful. We have so many blessings so "share","share", "share", with the world. It's all about LOVE - Thats it!

As most of you know, Johnny Depp, is playing the Mad Hatter in the new Alice In Wonderland movie, and I can't wait! Anyone who knows me knows that Johnny Depp is my most favorite actor of all times - I know we are related, he just doesn't know it. I plan to decorate his home in France someday, or maybe he will come decorate my home. What a blast it would be to hang out with him and his family talking about the unordinary!

We are finishing up on the last minute "beautiful wear" and then we are off "so we won't be late for our very important date" in Round Top, Texas. I sure hope to see all of you there having the most beautiful time ever. Just hanging out in the pastures with the cows in Round Top is awesome. Come to Texas!

Hi everyone,

It's that time of year I love - Hot tea in the early mornings on the porch with a cotton sweater, Ugg boots, and our two geese, Lilah and Arthur, of course. Summer is fading and it's bittersweet. Oh, how I love to swim in the river and play in the leaves. We are working hard on our " Victorian Fairy Wear" for the fall show at Marburger. Just thinking about the Warrenton / Round Top Antique Show gives me butterflies! It is the show of a lifetime. If you've never been, I recommend it as therapy! Texas is gorgeous in the fall -- Texas is "just" gorgeous, life is good, and we are all blessed. Hope to see you at the show - I'm off to make sweaters for the fairies!

I wanted to share this amazing video I found of an elephant painting. I was in tears after watching it - Totally beautiful! It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Elephants are my favorite animal of all. I always dream about having a rescue elephant here on our ranch that I can dress up and ride around while we eat cinnamon covered bananas and lilac gum - drops. My elephant will be named "Happy" and we will paint too.

The first step to animal conservation is bringing animals into people's hearts.

If it was over ( life as we know it, that is ) would we be satisfied that we "lived" life, really "lived" life? Sometimes I tell myself "this is it", today is all that is left! Do I need to mend some fences? Do I need to tell someone that I love them or say I'm sorry? As I approach 46 ( next month), I know I need to live less afraid, love less afraid, and go for it! What am I saving life for? You know how you save your "good" pair of shoes for church? When it's all said and done, those shoes sit perfectly in their box without a scratch. Well, not me! I want to use this body, soul, and spirit until it's tattered to perfection like an old piece of Victorian velvet. As the Magnolia Pearl crew and I are (already) creating for the Marburger Farm Show in September, I am reminded of how time flies! It seems the older I get, the faster it flies which motivates me to work harder at being the best I can be. I think the purpose of life is to help God make this beautiful world a better place for all who are here and, of course, to be happy. Sometimes happiness is a challenge, and then I make a gratitude list and realize, wow, I am so blessed and grateful. Hi "beautiful" women,

Being in the fashion business, I talk to women (lots of them), everyday, and I have learned that few women "know" that they are beautiful. Our society does very little to foster "true" beauty. In fact, it seems to do just the opposite and that has got to change. Beauty is so many things that words can not describe. On a small note, beauty to me is: the laugh lines around our eyes and all the scars that show we've used our bodies like a favorite pair of shoes. Beauty is the silver that streaks our hair like shooting stars from the heavens and weathered hands that show all the holding, mending, healing, planting, soothing, and love given to others. Something that I feel very passionate about is animal conservation. I'm especially passionate about whales and dolphins. My hero, Steve Erwin, was the dearest animal advocate of all times, not to mention one of the most beautiful people ever. I will forever miss him. An amazing organization, The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society named their conservation ship the "Steve Erwin" after their hero. They continue to do wildlife warrior work saving God's most amazing creatures risking their lives while "living" for what they believe in. Steve Erwin knew there was a wildlife warrior in all of us. As I sit and acknowledge the coming of Memorial Day, the day we released my beautiful, Father's ashes into the Medina River some years ago, I also think about the countless souls who, so bravely, gave their lives for our freedom and our amazing country. I am so truly grateful. I feel that it is equally important to "LIVE" for what we believe in as well. I know, for me, that takes bravery. Yesterday was Mother's Day,

the celebration of our birth mother. In reflecting the life and passing of my birth mother, I realized I'm not an orphan and that everyday is a celebration, for me, of my other Mother, EARTH, and what a mother she is! As I sit in the sunlight eating from our garden with the butterflies kissing me, I feel embraced while the birds serenade my worries away. Wherever you live, take time to sit quietly and let your "other" Mother embrace you with her perfect love. Hi all, Is the sky falling????

Well if it's not one thing, it's another and the media has turned everyone's home into a circus! We can't sleep worrying about the economy. We can't eat worrying about the "swine" flu, on and on.... It's true that there is plenty to worry about. It has always been that way and always will be. However, for every perceived "disaster", there are a trillion miracles! For some strange reason we seem to be hard-wired to obsess on the negative- scary stuff. I'm Challenging myself and friends to take time to practice meditating on the power of God and the goodness that surrounds us. It is everywhere. So much is always going beautifully. Be peaceful in your heart and mind if even for only a moment. The more you do that, the more that positive energy expands. I want to trust in the Divine Power that gifted all of us with this amazing experience and not be locked into fear. When I'm in fear, I miss the moment of pure love and perfection.

The Earth is our beautiful mother and she needs our love more now than ever before. John and I are redesigning our lives daily to reduce our environmental "foot print". Some of our small contributions are using less plastic, recycling, organic gardening, supporting organic gardeners, kissing all the flowers, and using environmentally-safe cleaning products. Hi Everyone,

With the new year comes the time for renewal of our soul. Are we living our life's purpose? For me, self change is one of the only things "I" have control of and that has been part of my "awakening" as I mature. Most often times it's the challenges that remind us of the simple beauty all around us. The challenges keep us focused, grounded and hopefully grateful. Wayne Dyer once said, "Music is the silence between the notes". If we change our perspective, we can change our lives. And then, we can change the world. Let's do it!!!! Hi everyone,

We wanted to share our Magnolia Pearl Calendar for Love - 2009 with all of you. The profits from this calendar go to our local, no-kill, animal shelter (C.C.P.A.L) in Bandera, TX. This is a project we are proud of because it's truly feeding many sweet animals that would otherwise go hungry. Not to mention, the shelter tries to find homes for each and every animal. Every critter needs a bed to jump on!

PS --- This song by Natalie Merchant is dedicated to our dog, Humphrey, who loved going to the river with us more than anything. John and I go to the river often and always feel Humphrey's beautiful spirit there with us. The river definitely feeds my soul!

Dear friends,

Our beautiful, best friend, Humphrey of 16 years has left us for his next journey. He loved to fish, so we are sure he's fishing on this special, sunny day. If you ever doubt that there's a God, the love and perfection of a dog will mend that -- Only God could create something that "awesome"!

Hi Pearl here,

We are excited about our journey to the Warrenton / Round Top Antique Show -- The greatest show on earth! It's like going to summer camp for us in that we see friends from all around the world that we don't see any other time. Beautiful people, beautiful Texas and beautiful antiques!

John, the Magnolia Pearl crew and I have just completed our art car, "Rosie" a 1958 Rolls Royce,

Silver Cloud 4X4 completely covered in hand painted roses and decked out Magnolia Pearl style from bumper to bumper. We will have Rosie the "Rose Royce" pulling the Magnolia Pearl Airstream at our spring show @ Marburger Farm in Round Top, Texas April 1-5. We should have pictures of Rosie soon!!! Hi,

I thought I would share these photos of me and my grandmother Louise - A gypsy, Mae West!

She was an antique dealer when I was young, and I worked in her store at an early age fine tuning my eye for the "good stuff", as my brother, Thovas, calls it! She's in her 90's and sharp as a tack. At our visit yesterday, we talked about God, estate sales, carved ivory, tattered oriental jackets and Mexican Food ---- some of the "Good Stuff"!!!! I love old people, old stuff, and old souls! Hi everyone,

thank you for sharing this blog with me. I've added a beautiful song by Aradhana Silvermoon, "Peace Within" that I think will inspire you. Speaking of inspiration, did you see the movie, August Rush? Wow, what a great movie and soundtrack! John and I are always so busy we rarely go to movies these days, but we had to see that one. If I have spare time, I prefer to be in the garden or with the birds and sunset -- God is a genius!

John and I are "Magnolia Pearlizing", from top to bottom, a vintage Airstream that Country Living will be shooting soon. I'll post a " sneak peek" when the exterior art is finished. What a project - tons of work, but a complete blast! There's never a moment without an art project at our home.

PS --- Look for our "fashion", garden photo shoot in the April 08 issue of Country Living magazine.
